Grizzly's afterwork 120705

Jaimie and I tried to get out early for a shot at some bears, and it worked out for the most part. We started off with along dry spell and finally decided to try and capture a Columbian ground squirrel in the sunlight.
They are great subjects. I love the Claws.
Next we spotted this cow moose that was our for dinner, everything is filling in great with all the rain and warm weather. I believe we are still 2-3 behind normal though.
Finally after almost 4 hours in the car we found the Sow with three cubs (this year) . They are barely as tall as the Dandelions that they are eating. This is the Blonde cub of the three.
Yeah, yeah, yeah, I know they just look so cute.  But momma doesn't!
Here are the three of them together, you cna certainly see the colouration difference.
I believe momma is "bear 98", see, she doesn't look cuddly!
Not hard to tell who the favourite is! with the colouring, this little blonde cub blends right in. But watch out for those claws in 3 years time.
Just as you would expect, momma is ever vigilant. What a great time spent with these four.  When we first arrived they had already been out in the field and we kind of "popped" on the scene, they were only 20 yards from the truck.it took them a little time to work back out into the open field.
On the way home we managed to catch this Coyote out in the open. it looks like it might be suffering from early stages of Mange.
We wrapped up our evening with a little mosse whisperer session.  I will let Jamie fill you in on the story, suffice it to say that he wonders if there is anything that I cannot get a moose to do!
Sorry for cutting the back of this fine fellow off, but I was zoomed all the way out, and didn't feel that I had time to do alot of focus point adjusting to get the whole critter in.  If you look you will see that he is actually down on his front knees eating.  He was 6 or 7 yards away from me:)
We spotted one black bear on the rest of the journey, and only three GHO's. But this moose encounter and the time with the cubs made this trip a memory maker!  Have a GREAT Outdoors day!
